Head of Learning and Development

I am a registered nurse, I hold a masters and PhD in Medical Anthropology, and an honours degree in Health Studies. I am also a Nurse Practitioner and active researcher and have been teaching undergraduate and post graduate nursing for 20 years and have managed and taught on a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes locally, nationally and internationally.

I am an avid researcher and have written several articles which have been published in peer reviewed journals and have also co-authored a chapter in the book entitled Competencies for Advanced Nursing Practice, edited by Sue Hincliff. My research activities focus on long term conditions, such as, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension and stroke and I have a keen interest in palliative care. I am especially interested in people’ lived experience of managing chronic conditions. My PhD research focused on the anthropology of diabetes, examining beliefs and attitudes among people with diabetes in Trinidad.

I am a member of the Prayer Ministry Team at my local church and a member of the Chaplaincy Team at Hillingdon Hospital. I believe in the ethos of encouragement which is about standing with one another and bringing a life-giving presence to one another. It’s how we experience real community together. A kind of community that is not life-depleting but life-enriching, not guarded and aloof but totally involved, not scrutinizing and criticizing but affirming and strengthening. I believe that this ethos is fully manifested by the team at Eden Care at Home.
